Wind data analysis, wind resource assessment and wind farm layout and optimization design software in one interface

FUROW is a complete and user-friendly software

FUROW is a complete and exhaustive software, which possesses features directly involved with a wind farm development project at any given stage. Furthermore, its compatibility is flexible while working with other software, therefore, allowing users easy access to share and compare information.

FUROW is the result of several years of research and expertise in the wind energy sector. Based SOLUTE´s engineer knowledge, the TUV-SUV certified software provides solutions to promoters, engineering consultancies, wind resource assessment departments, financial departments, and more.

FUROW will help you to:

• Download reanalysis data (ERA5, MERRA-2, and more).

• Analyze wind data within diverse modules.

• Calculate onshore and offshore wind resource assessments in different heights.

• Design the site's layout, study the AEP, and several features within the micrositing module.

• Estimate financial aspects of the project.

FUROW is the market's only wind data analysis, wind resource assessment, and wind farm layout and optimization design software in one interface with three main stages.

1

Data analysis

Furow effectively and quickly allows to have an initial idea of the data coverage from the measuring campaign.

Inputs

• Reanalysis data download available (ERA5, MERRA-2, etc.)

• SODAR/LIDAR

• Met mast

Calculations

• Availability

• Weibull fit

• Scatter plot and fitting

• Turbulence

• Wind shear

• Long term

• Extreme winds

• Atmospheric stability

• Inflow angle

• High wind hysteresis

• Wind transitions

• Temperature losses

• Energy production

Outputs

• Time series reconstruction

2

Wind Resource Assessment

FUROW has its own wind resource calculator, allowing users to obtain all necessary maps to make a correct wind resource assessment of a given site. All calculations can be performed at several heights, depending on the users' need.

Inputs

• Elevation data

• Roughness data

• Bathymetry maps

Calculations

• In order to generate all wind resource maps, users must select one clima object* and one topographic grid container object.

* A clima object shows a summary of the climatology of the site to do all wind resource calculations

Outputs

Site data:

• Turbulence

• Atmospheric

• Physical maps

3

Micrositing

Within FUROW's micrositing module, the following features can be performed:

Inputs

• Wind turbine data

• Design standard

• Among others

Calculations

• Wake effects calculator through different methods (Jensen, Frandsen, Larsen, Ishihara, Simplified Eddy Viscosity, Eddy Viscosity, Bastankak & Porte-Agel, and Furowake).

• Wind farm layout optimization.

• Wind farm energy production estimation.

• Energy losses estimation.

• Wind sector management calculation

Trusted by

SOLUTE collaborates with the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) during the Collegiate Wind Competition, where participating teams and faculty have access to Furow and its benefits for the development of a wind farm project.

Furthermore, the SOLUTE team has the possibility to, assist, mentor, and advise students while using Furow through the competition and webinars.

In the current 2023 competition, 16 teams participated over two semesters. NREL recommends the use of FUROW as a competitive advantage for teams. More than half of them already use FUROW for their wind projects.

FUROW supports future engineers

We collaborate with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (since 2017), with the Master in Energy taught by the Faculty of Physical Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid and with the University of Toronto (known for its R+D), to provide Furow for students:

University of Toronto

Considered as one of the most prestigious universities in Canada and the world, students at the University of Toronto have access to use Furow during their wind energy courses, receive technical assistance, and seminars.

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Known for its popular worldwide research studies, students, and faculty at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid use Furow for their assignments, projects, and research. Since 2017, students have also been selected for internships with the SOLUTE team and collaborating with day-to-day tasks.

Universidad Complutense de Madrid

During graduate school programs, students and faculty at Universidad Complutense de Madrid have access to Furow for their assignments and final projects. Furow works as an important tool for their development and the SOLUTE teams is passionate about providing them with additional technical knowledge.

Universidad de Extremadura

Students at the Universidad de Extremadura are using Furow during their semesters for assignments and projects. UEX is one of Spain´s largest universities and we are constantly working with their staff and students by providing internships and software solutions.
